Obviously Twitter is a site that has huge potential. I mean if I owned the site I’d definitely be looking for ways of making cash and with the amount of traffic they get, they can make lots of it!

 

There have been various discussions throughout the internet, talking about the possibilities of how they can make their money via monetizing their site. Well it is evident that they are giving it a shot on an extremely discreet and small scale. If you look now, some definitions will have “sponsored definitions”. Of course, sponsored doesn’t mean for charity, it means they are getting paid to post the details of another company on definitions.

 

As far as anyone knows, the definition sponsorship is being controlled via a third party. It will be Federated Media that sorts out all the ‘definition deals’ for Twitter over the coming months so I’d expect to see more popping up over time!

 

One thing that has allowed Twitter to grow so fast is the fact that they have not bothered to spam their users with ads. This creates good organic growth and it is only now that they can slowly start filtering the likes of ads and sponsorship deals into circulation. They have worked hard, done a good job, so now they deserve to get paid!

 

Of course, Twitter hasn’t actually detailed the specifics of their plans for the future, but I’m sure they’ll be more to come. Expect to see more monetization processes being implemented over the coming months.
